Extremely large vivid pink flowers and downy leaves. Low growing plants for front of border or large rockery. Drained soil in sun or light shade. 25cm.
If you only have space (or need) for one form of Bloody Cranesbill then I would suggest that 'Elsbeth' would be hard to beat. Neat hummocks (think molehill shape...) of light green, finely divided leaves covered with masses of big, bright magenta pink flowers in spring and summer. Flowering can start as early as April but the main season is May to July, with some flower continuing into the autumn when the foliage will turn a selection of warm autumnal shades.
Geranium sanguineum can be cut hard back at the end of the first flush of flowers in July to tidy them up and encourage a second flush of flowers in late August to October
Collected in the Wallis region of Switzerland by Hans Simon and introduced by him in Germany in 1982.
