A larger clump forming sedge from New Zealand with grey backed rich green leaves curling over to make an attractive evergeen. Heavy looking brown flowers in summer to 80cm. Good soil in sun.
It would be easy to dismiss this as the New Zealand version of the UK native pendulous sedge, Carex pendula, but this is so much more refined. The tight clumps produce an abundance of gracefully arching leaves with the grey-blue backs showing as the leaves change angle. The upright flowering stems produce chunky flowers from May.
Best in a damp soil that doesn't dry out in sun or part shade.
