A rarely seen, elegant ornamental grass that makes tight clumps of upright, arching growth. Greyish foliage and golden flowers to 1.5m. Drained soil in sun.
We have had this in the entrance border to the nursery since 2010 and it's proved to be hardy and reliable, if slightly overshadowed by the established clump of Miscanthus sinensis 'Adagio' a few feet away! The tight clump produces a fountain of long, narrow grey-green leaves to 1m tall and later in the summer and early autumn the tall arching flowers are produced. The flowers are even, branched spikes of fine tawny spikelets, the stems allow the flowers to arch gracefully and they spring back up after rain has bowed them down. 2m.
From river banks and other dry stony or sandy slopes in parts of the USA and Mexico. Has survived -16 deg celsius here in Norfolk with good drainage.
