Evergreen clumps of grassy foliage to 50cm and tall, upright airy flowers in early summer to 2m or more. Drained soil in full sun. Perfectly hardy but dislikes too much winter wet.

From dryish habitat including Steppes from the Caucasus east to China.

Plants in cultivation are often Stipa calamagrostis but this is the real plant!
