A stunning new introduction with attractive green leaves on red stems and large heads of rich pink flowers from July to the frosts. HARDY! Wild collected, Japan, 1997 by Dan Hinkley. 60cm.

Quite different in appearance to the more common forms in cultivation in the UK, 'Heron's Pirouette' has plain green leaves in a particularly attractive shade of mid-light green on the typical bright red stems. The leaves lack the red veins on the reverse so far for us, maybe this needs more warm weather!

The particularly striking feature (if the leaves aren't enough) is the size of the flower clusters.  Lots of chunky rich pink flowers are held in branched heads of flowers to 60cm over a long season.

Hardy in most of the UK with little attention but worth giving it a good mulch of composted bark or similar to make sure.  Best in a shaded spot in reasonable soil but likely to be quite tolerant of other positions, but avoid winter wet.

Collected in 1997 in Japan by Dan Hinkley of the famous (and now closed) Heronswood Nursery.
