Strong upright stems of fresh green foliage showing off bright scarlet red flowers in whorls in mid to late summer. Excellent for seedheads for autumn and winter interest. Best in reasonable soil in full sun, 1.2m.

Monarda always benefit from being dug and split up every few years, improve the soil with some home made compost or well rotted muck and replant the best bits of the plant. Keep an eye on the plant in early spring and when they show signs of dying out in the centre of the clump it is time to split them - February to April is normally ideal.
