An unusual bulbous plant making a spike of starry greenish white flowers on a wiry stem to 50cm in summer.  Rare British native. Easy in decent soil in light shade.

Rosettes of narrow, greyish green leaves are produced early in the year but the flower spikes do not appear until summer.  Attractive to grow amongst lower growing mat forming perennials where the slender growth will look good overhead.

The new flowering shoots are edible and used to be cultivated commercially giving rise to the common name: Bath Asparagus.

From woodland edge, clearings and hedgerows in the UK and southern Europe.
