A long lived, clump forming species with narrow triangular leaves and strong, upright, branching stems bearing whorls of light purple flowers in summer followed by good seedheads. Drained soil in sun. 1.5m.

An excellent plant to mix into a traditional herbaceous border or to use in a more contemporary meadow or prairie planting.  Phlomoides tuberosa mixes very well with grasses as the structural seedheads contrast well with the airy, floaty seedheads of many grasses.

The name tuberosa correctly suggests that the root has tubers but they are not a means of propagating the plant, just storage organs.

From central and southern Europe into central Asia.
