The classic late winter flowering wood anemone. Low growing and flowering November to April depending on the weather! Easy and hardy. 10cm.
Mostly a bright royal blue but some white or light blue are possible. All will make a good addition to those sometimes difficult areas under deciduous trees or shrubs that are moist in winter and spring but dry out completely as the woody plants suck all the moisture out in summer. Anemone blanda will tolerate not just the very dry conditions but also the shade as it will naturally die down in mid-summer so re-appear the following winter.
Given time and decent conditions Anemone blanda can naturalise well under deciduous trees. Often offered for sale as dry tubers, these are hard to get to grow and establish and pot grown plants are more likely to succeed.
From south eastern Europe, Cyprus etc.
