A robust, low growing form collected by Frank Waley in France during the First World War with large flowers of a light lavender blue. There are fakes with darker flowers in the trade. 15cm, shade.
'Dee Day' has always been a distinct plant amongst the blue forms with it's larger flowers on a lower plant than most. In fact all parts of the plant are larger than most of the other blues, the rhizomes are especially chunky! Rich green leaves on dark stems.
Our stock originated with Elizabeth Strangman at the former Washfield Nursery in the mid 1990s. Unfortunately there seem to be a lot of imposters in various UK nurseries that look more like Anemone nemorosa 'Royal Blue', 'Lismore Blue' or 'Bowles Purple' - three varieties that I struggle to seperate! To add more confusion at least one overseas nursery claims that 'Dee Day' should be white!
Whatever the identity - our plant is one that I wouldn't want to be without, it's superb.
