Family: AsteraceaeMain Season: SummerFlower Colour: BlueLeaf Colour: GreenPosition: SunSoil Type: Ordinary, medium loamHeight: 30cm to 45cm (12" to 18")Pot Size: 9cm
Tight clumps of branched stems with deep green, slightly hairy, leaves topped with rich lavender flowers all summer. Average soil in sun. 45cm.
Attractive from the first spring leaves appearing at ground level throughout the summer and often into autumn with the relatively large flowers on strong stems, Aster peduncularis is well worth trying. Perfectly hardy as long as it doesn't get waterlogged it makes a good companion to many hardy geraniums as well as grasses such as Molinia 'Poul Petersen' (we have it planted nearby) and Pennisetum.
Unfortunately it isn't easy to propagate, the usual methods of division and cuttings don't work well.
Syn. Aster asperulus.
