BSWJ2165a Deep bronze-purple leaves emerge in early spring turning greenish by the time the lilac-purple flowers open in mid spring. 45cm. Good soil in shade, not too dry.
Cardamine macrophylla has always been one that we really wanted to grow well but the truth is that our bit of Norfolk is just a bit too dry and exposed for it to perform. This wild selection with deep bronzed new leaves just makes it all the more covetous. Our trick is to grow it in our net covered shade tunnel and make sure it doesn't dry out in summer.
If you have a nice damp, shady spot this is essential.
Collected on the Singalila ridge in northern India.
