Clumps of big pinnatifid leaves with a silvery sheen produce strong stems topped with rich ruby red flowers in summer. Drained soil in full sun. 1m+.

A perfect perennial for well drained sandy or gravelly soils in full sun. Unfortunately Centaurea atropurpurea actively dislikes winter wet so don't bother if your soil gets soggy in the winter!

From Romania and the Balkans.
