Very compact clumps of greyish leaves produce rich purple flowers with spotted orange throats and pale yellow beards to 15cm in spring. Well drained soil in full sun, or alpine house.
Obtained under this name from an Alpine Garden Society members stall though I have some doubt. Whatever it's identity it is a lovely plant that will flower best when grown hard, in a good sunny spot. It does very well for us under cover in a frame or polytunnel allowing us to control summer moisture.
