AGM Solid clumps of broad grassy leaves send up strong stems with large spikes of glowing orange red flowers from late June until autumn. Drained, good soil in sun. 1.2m.
'Samuel's Sensation' is an older variety that still stands up well against many newer introductions. Strong growth and good sized spikes on strong upright stems make it an eyecatching plant for the border. Best in a good, fertile soil that doesn't dry out too much but is drained so that it doesn't sit too wet in winter.
Many plants under this name (and photos on websites!) are mis-identified and are actually the yellow and red variety Kniphofia 'Painted Lady'.
