Congested hummocks of very long, narrow strap-like leaves of a dark green. Spikes of small mauve flowers are followed by purplish berries. 30cm. Sun or shade, not dry.
This is one of my favourite Ophiopogons with its vigourous growth in sun or shade it quickly (relatively!) makes patches to provide excellent groundcover around taller plants. Ideal to use on banks, around large rocks etc in Japanese style gardens as well as covering the ground under large shrubs and trees.
Ophiopogon bodinieri B&L12505 has proved very tolerant of our exposed site and doesn't scorch when grown in sunny and windy places. It has stayed totally evergreen even in our record low of -16ºC.
Collected by Christopher Brickell and Alan Leslie in China, 1987.
