A beautiful golden yellow flowered shrubby species from Tibet reliably produces a good show of flowers in late spring to 1.5m. Best in good soil in light/part shade.
If you want to try a tree peony then I'd always suggest starting with Paeonia ludlowii as it's a tough, easy and long lived species with good size flowers. I've lived with this plant since the late 1980s and it keeps going!
From fairly high altitude (hence pretty hardy) in Tibet where it grows in open woodland.
Ludlow's Tree Peony or Tibetan Tree Peony.
Formerly known as Paeonia lutea var. ludlowii or Paeonia delavayi var. ludlowii.
