An excellent older Russian selection with good, healthy, deep green foliage with a purple flush on new growth. Good heads of strongly scented purple flowers with a white star in mid to late summer. Mildew resistant. Good soil in full sun, 1m.

Border phlox provide valuable late summer colour to fill the gap in gardens between the main summer flowers and the autumn flowers at a time of year when everything can look tired.

As long as the soil doesn't dry out too much Phlox paniculata 'Uspekh' will start to flower in midsummer and continue into autumn.  Deadheading can extend flowering by a couple of weeks too.

From Pavel Gaganov in 1937, the name translates as "Success" which we would certainly agree with!

Sometimes spelt 'Uspech'
