A pretty, self-seeding cottage garden perennial with delicate looking deeply divided leaves and heads of palest yellow flowers all summer. 40cm. Average soil in sun.
One of those plants that every gardener should start with, easy, reliable, hardy etc. And if you do kill it, then it will probably reappear from seed somewhere the next year. That said, it isn't a prolific seeder and usually just makes a useful colony without swamping it's neighbours.
Potentilla recta var. sulphurea also provides another source of that most useful but hard to find shade of pale yellow flowers. This light pastel colour fits with so many other colours without clashing that even those who are afraid of yellow flowers will find it easy to use. Try it with blue hardy Geraniums, or warmer orange and red perennials like Crocosmia, almost anything in fact.
