A robust species that's always very early to flower here. Felted plain green leaves and generous clusters of clear blue flowers in late winter. Good soil in shade. 40cm.

Here in relatively dry East Anglia Pulmonaria can be a struggle to keep going but Pulmonaria mollis has proved to be a good garden plant.  Mostly deciduous it emerges with good fresh flower and foliage each spring and continues with tidy leaves through the summer.  Tolerant of drought to some extent but still better in soil that doesn't dry out regularly.

One of the few lungworts that will grow in sun as long as the soil is good.

From southern Europe eastwards to China. Found in deciduous woodland on the whole.
