Clumps of upright stems that will produce masses of dusky reddish-purple flowers in summer and autumn. Drained soil in full sun. Self-seeds usefully, ie a little! 45cm.
Woody based and often keeping a clump of leaves overwinter. Very popular for mixing with ornamental grasses like Stipa tenuissima and Panicum vigatum, Teucrium hircanicum is hardy but can't stand to be too wet overwinter.
The name 'Purple Tails' appears to just be a selling name for the species, I can't see any difference.
Syn. Teucrium hyrcanicum
