An amazing tall plant with a branching habit and spires of light purple flowers that can go on all summer if dead headed. Seems sterile so maybe a hybrid. Drained but good soil in full sun.  1.8m.

We were suspicious that this wouldn't prove hardy (Verbena bonariensis dies here...) but 'Lavender Spires' has survived some pretty cold weather and kept on growing!  The slender plant will soon bush out if you cut each spike of flowers out as it goes over, or give it a "Chelsea-chop" as it comes up in spring.

An excellent mixer for tall wavy grasses, try it with Calamagrostis 'Karl Foerster' or Eragrostis curvula.  Verbena macdougalii 'Lavender Spires' will start to flop the instant it dries out so you will soon know if your soil isn't good enough for it, it does bounce straight back if you throw a bucket of water at it though!
