A colourful sedge from New Zealand making neat clumps to 30cm. Olive green strongly tinted with bright orange especially overwinter. Evergreen. Best in good (even damp) soil in sun.

Carex testacea is one of the brightest of the New Zealand sedges and the orange tints can be used to highlight neighbouring plants with similar tones - it works especially well with Tuipa 'Ballerina' for instance.

Best grown in a good, rich soil that doesn't dry out, Carex testacea can be used as a marginal or bog garden plant but also works well in a container.
