An excellent hardy ginger relative with dark green leaves, maroon-red bracts and warm mango-yellow flowers in summer to 90cm. Drained but good soil that doesn't dry out too much in shade.
If you are new to trying hardy Gingers then you can't go far wrong with Cautleya spicata 'Robusta'. It has proven hardy in some of the coldest winters in recent years as long as it isn't waterlogged. Add a mulch of bark chips or similar if you are worried! If you wish to grow it in a pot then take it inside a cold greenhouse/shed/garage for the winter and keep it on the dry side.
