TENDER An eyecatching hybrid with masses of racemes of purple calyces and white flowers flushed with pale lavender. May be worth trying outside in a warm sunny, sheltered garden but overwinter frost free to be safe. 50cm.

A fairly new one to us but it's certainly a winner.  The near white flowers are nestled in large, rich purple spires over the deep green lanceolate leaves on a bushy plant.  More or less evergreen if kept frost free and it keeps on flowering well into winter too.  We've yet to try leaving it out but expect that it will be okay in a well drained soil in a warm, sheltered site with a mulch but will probably be herbaceous.

The origins of Salvia 'Waverly' are unknown but it appears to be related to Salvia leucantha and was first seen in horticulture in the western USA in the early 1990s.
