Unmistakeable clumps of burnished mahogany red evergreen foliage on this stunning New Zealand sedge. Best in damp soil in some shade but tolerates less of both! Neat gorwer to 25cm.

Uncinia rubra is one of those ever popular ornamental grasses that is best treated as a short lived perennial here in Norfolk but will live for many years and get quite big in cooler, damper parts of the country.  This sedge is fairly easy to raise from seed or can be divided in spring or early summer so it's easy to keep it going.

The lovely glossy foliage makes a strong contrast to golden yellow variegated plants and also makes a super container plant for a sheltered shady patio or similar.

From New Zealand.

Hook Sedge.
