Difficult to describe as the flower colour varies considerably from sun to shade! In shade it is a dull brown-purple, in sun rich reddish fading to yellow spur tips. Big flowers to 4.5cm across on stems to 45cm. Good soil in shade.

Very evergreen here in Norfolk, Epimedium x omeiense has distinctive angular leaves and produces it's showy flowers in generous branched heads on wiry, arching stems in mid-spring.  The flower colour is variously described as dull, greyish, purplish or brown by those who have only seen it on a dull, cloudy day.  But when you see it with a bit of sun you would be forgiven for thinkng it an entirely different plant with it's rich reddish brown flowers with long spurs tipped in lemon yellow.

The new leaves start entirely ruby red slowly fading to the typical rich green as they mature and toughen up.

This represents a wild hybrid between Epimedium acuminatum and Epimedium fangii.

'Stormcloud' is one of the original introductions of this naturally occurring hybrid, found by Mikinori Ogisu on the slopes of Emei Shan in Sichuan, China.
