Very pretty silvery-cream variegated grey leaves and the typical elegant red and purple dangling flowers all summer and into autumn.  Hardy in drained soil in a sheltered spot.

As the gracilis part of the name suggests this is a lovely elegant plant with slender leaves and flowers and a delicate looking arching habit.  When grown as a free standing or wall shrub it can easily get to 1.5m.

An old favourite and always worth a place unless you are in the very coldest location.  It's survived here in a real frost pocket and still comes back to flower by July!  In a sheltered garden or a mild winter in can be somewhat evergreen or re-grow from the shrubby stems, in a cold spot it may have to come back from ground level each year.  Do not prune until the new growth is starting in mid-spring.

Occasionally reverts a little but easy to pinch out the green bits.

Fuchsia magellanica var. gracilis was introduced from Chile in 1822, 'Versicolor' is a sport from it.
