AGM An excellent clear blue form producing many spikes of flowers from May until midsummer and then sporadically later. Can be cut back after the first flush to promote more. Drained soil in sun. 40cm.
It may have been around for a while but Salvia x sylvestris 'Blauhügel' still takes some beating if you want a compact hummock producing lots of blue flowers in summer. Ideal for edging borders, marking corners or mixing in with other low growing perennials and ornamental grasses.
We prefer to cut back hard after the first flush of flower starts to go over and it will normally produce a good second lot of flower 5-6 weeks later. Leave the second flush alone to enjoy the winter seedheads.
Syn. Salvia nemorosa 'Blue Mound' and Salvia 'Blue Bird'.
