We have grown this in an unheated polytunnel for several years and it survived well below freezing in 2012 by being kept quite dry. It now has the luxury of a gas heater and grows and flowers all winter.
Like most Buddleja, B. officinalis can be cut back quite hard if needed to restrict it's size. It is best to do this in the spring or early summer so that more wood can grow and ripen to flower in the winter.
From China, introduced to the UK in the early 20th centuary.
