Hedgehog Rush. Low clumps of flattened foliage and clusters of dark brown spiky inflorescences to 20cm. Good to wet soil in sun or light shade.

Often recommended as a marginal plant but Juncus ensifolius is quite happy in good rich soil that doesn't dry out or can also be grown as a container plant.

Native to western north America (including Mexico) and Japan.

Commonly known as Flying Hedghogs, Hedghog Rush or Flatleaf rush.
