Clumps of hairy foliage and rich purple-blue flowers in spring and early summer. For drained soil in full sun. Very pretty. 25cm.

Compact and relatively low growing this deciduous species is useful for those well drained sunny gardens where many plants can struggle in a drought.  The first flowers will usually appear in mid May and it will flower for about 6-8 weeks, with some repeat later in summer.  The rounded, hairy, leaves provide a good foil for it's own flowers and are also useful for other flowering plants with little foliage of their own.

Geranium platypetalum is a good plant for edging beds, very cold hardy and should do well in any well drained soil in full sun.

Turkey, Iran and many of the former Soviet states in that area.
