Originating in Beth Chatto's Essex garden this superb form of the species produces spectacular, well, long spikes of pinkish flowers to between 1.2 and 1.5m. Sun, drained soil.
Acanthus mollis is a little better behaved than some other commonly cultivated species but you still need to bear in mind that it's roots will regrow after you dig it up and move it! So plant it in the right place first time!
'Long Spike', also called 'Chatto Long Spike', is possibly the best form in cultivation with robust, upright flower stems with masses of flowers for the bulbme bees to get into in summer. Best in well drained soil in full sun.
