A delightful low growing species producing glowing purple flowers in pendent clusters in spring and early summer. Makes neat clumps of grassy leaves, the flowers slightly taller to 20cm. Drained soil in full sun.

An excellent plant for the front of a border or on a scree or rockery.  Unlike many Alliums it is well behaved just producing the odd self-sown seedling in the years we have grown it.

From Kansu (Gansu), in northern China.

Named by William Stearn as Allium farreri in 1930 and then reassigned by Stearn to a variety of Allium cyathophorum in 1950.
