Airy brown flowers, strong yellow autumn foliage. 1.5m. Like a shorter version of 'Transparent'. Good soil in sun.

If you are looking for a Molinia with airy flowers and seed heads that isn't too tall this is probably the one you need.  Although it isn't as well known as Molinia caerulea ssp. arundinacea 'Transparent' this has all the same good features but benefits from being at least 30cm (1') shorter so it can fit into more gardens more easily.

The green foliage has a slight grey cast to it in summer before turning a clear buttery yellow in autumn (typically October-November).  The stems are a deep green and become a rich glowing orange-yellow.

Molinia caerulea ssp. arundinacea 'Bergfreund' was named by Karl Partisch.  Synonyms include 'Mountain's Friend' and 'Mountain Friend'.
